Our main office located in Aurora is recognized under Treaty 13 and the Williams Treaties, signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands. As the closest Indigenous community to Aurora, we also honour the significant connection the Chippewas of Georgina Island have with the land and waters in this region.
This land and surrounding regions are home to a vast diversity of First Nations, Inuit and Métis people who enrich these communities. We are dedicated to learning the truth about the contributions of Indigenous peoples and the impacts of colonialism on their lived experiences and are committed to actions that support a path to reconciliation.
We affirm that we are all treaty people, with a responsibility to honor and respect Indigenous knowledge, traditions and connections with the land and waters in this region
We are committed to the ongoing process of truth and reconciliation, guided by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s final report calls for 94 actions toward restoring a balanced relationship between Indigenous Peoples and settler communities.
Acknowledging the territory upon which we operate is a first step towards reflecting on the history on this land, disrupting settler colonial practices and cultivating respectful relationships with Indigenous Peoples. We expand our steps through continuous education and skill-based training for all employees on the history and legacies of settler colonialism, to address past and ongoing injustices. We also engage in community partnerships to center the rights, dignity, healing and justice for Indigenous Peoples as we work together toward a better future grounded in respect, equity and sustainability.
