Domicile / Up Stories / Real Stories

Do you you have a story to tell about the services and supports that have helped you on your journey?

You’ve come to the right place!

Send us a written version of your story or blog post below. Keep all written stories and blog posts to less than 1,000 words. Your written story will be published anonymously unless you send an email to uphub@yssn.ca and ask that your name be included.

Once your story has been submitted and accepted, you will be able to view it on the Blogs page.

Story submission guidelines and consent

We’ve created a community space for you to share your story and be inspired by stories of people in York Region who know what it’s like to face challenges and work their way through them. This is your opportunity to share your story on your own terms and help inspire, connect to and make a difference in the lives of others facing the same or similar challenges. We all have a story; we also have the power to write our own endings.

Important uphub.ca guidelines for story submissions

To share your story with the uphub.ca community, please follow these important guidelines:

DO’S

  • Do share as much or as little about your personal journey as you feel comfortable sharing; this is your opportunity to share your story on your own terms, in your own way.
  • Do share information that you think will inspire and make a difference in the lives of people who may be facing the same or similar challenges in your community.
  • Do feel free to be your authentic self, to allow yourself to be represented just as you are; our differences are our special superpowers.

DON’TS

  • Do not share your personal information (e.g. your last name, address, phone number, email or date of birth) or someone else’s personal information that could be easily used to identify you and/or your family members, or the person(s) mentioned.
  • Do not use vulgar, offensive, defamatory or derogatory language (like insults or slurs).
  • Do not make statements that you know to be false or inaccurate, or that may hurt others.

Submission authorization

This authorization grants permission to Your Support Services Network (YSSN) to use your spoken words to support the Up Hub project.

By signing, you agree:

  • To archive, store and make your story available in any medium, be it print or electronic form, which will include the internet.
  • To the right to edit, mix or duplicate and use or re-use the story in whole or in parts as YSSN may choose.
  • To give permission for this story to be copied, used, exhibited, displayed, broadcasted, distributed and posted now or in the future.
  • I understand that I have the right to revoke consent, at any time, to future use of my story by contacting uphub@yssn.ca.
  • I understand that this submitted story will become the property of YSSN, and kept for use by YSSN (note: your story and experiences are still your property and this contract does not seek ownership of your personal story, only this written version).
  • There is no financial reimbursement for the right to use your written story.
