Crisis Response Worker – Outreach Mobile Support Team

One full-time Contract to December 31, 2024 (with the possibility of extension or becoming permanent)

Day, Evening and Weekends required

You will be responsible for engaging with individuals, families and groups who are currently under-represented in the area. You will be working in partnership with the YSSN Community Outreach and Engagement Crisis Worker and local community organizations to improve relations between marginalized communities and community mental health services and increase awareness on mental health services, while increasing community participation and reducing isolation.

In addition to broader community outreach initiatives, you will also be responsible for providing one-on-one support to individuals who have been identified through your outreach efforts or by YSSN crisis services (including but not limited to the Mental Health Support Team and Call Diversion Unit) as individuals who could benefit from in person follow-up supports from a qualified crisis worker.

Community engagement is essentially a relational process that occurs at a local level. It involves professionals who represent services and service systems building personal relationships with community members and groups, based on mutual trust and respect.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Social Work or related discipline (i.e. Health Sciences)
  • Minimum three years related experience
  • Experience with community outreach and engagement
  • Knowledge and practice of short-term urgent response, psychosocial rehabilitation approach and advanced clinical, crisis and assessment skills are assets
  • Have extensive knowledge of existing community services and networks
  • Experience working with individuals having a serious mental illness is essential
  • Crisis skills for adults and children experiencing a mental health crisis are desirable
  • Knowledge and experience with Indigenous cultural practices are assets
  • Be committed to engaging with difficult to reach and underserved populations
  • Demonstrate strong aptitude for creativity and out-of-the box thinking and willingness to explore new and unique ways of service delivery
  • Completion of CPI, CPR and ASIST training as per agency guidelines
  • Be skilled at working independently and be comfortable working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent Communication skills
  • A second language is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of the local service system is essential
  • Be available to work: days, evenings and weekends as required, and remain flexible to work after hours

Mental Health Case Management – Flex Supports

One full-time contract to April 18, 2025 (with the possibility of extension or becoming permanent)

This position will provide intensive case management and advocacy services to individual’s aged sixteen and over who are experiencing mental health, dual diagnosis and/or addictions and who are vulnerably housed or homeless. Through a collaborative approach, this position will facilitate recovery and assist service users who are experiencing significant difficulties in daily functioning to improve their quality of life. Tasks will include direct service interventions, clinical support and community development. Daily travel within York region will be required.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Social Work or related discipline (i.e. Health Sciences)
  • Minimum 3 years related experience in social services with adults who have a serious mental illness, dual diagnosis, developmental disability, or addictions
  • Second language is an asset – Cantonese, Mandarin, Francophone
  • Broad experience with individual, family, and systems advocacy, supportive counseling, crisis prevention and intervention experience
  • Experience in providing support around housing and/or homelessness
  • Sound understanding of the population and relevant legislation
  • The successful applicant will be required to provide a police clearance that meets agency standards

Administrative Assistant – Mental Health

One .5fte (17.5 hrs/wk) permanent position

The administrative professional we are searching for will be responsible for providing administrative and clerical support to YSSN’s Mental Health Access department.

Our ideal candidate will have some very specialized skills and experiences to bring to this role. Specifically, we are seeking someone who has advanced skills in Excel and demonstrated proficiency in working within databases and preparation and/or management of statistical reports. Experience working with Microsoft Project would be a definite asset to candidates applying for this position. As well, we are looking for someone with experience in providing administrative supports directly for a management-level professional.

Position Requirements

  • Business College or equivalency
  • Minimum 2 years related administrative experience
  • Intermediate knowledge of working in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Microsoft Project
  • Familiarity with Office 365, Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive
  • Experience and familiarity with database, data entry and/or statistical tracking
  • Minute taking and meeting support skills with a strong attention to grammar and proof-reading
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and effective organization skills
  • A strong knowledge of community resources would be a definite asset
  • The successful candidate will be required to provide a police clearance that meets agency standards

Crisis Response Worker – Call Diversion Unit

ONE Full-Time Permanent Position

Crisis Response Worker – CDU – Day, Evening and Weekend Shifts

The Call Diversion Unit – Crisis Response Worker in collaboration with the York Regional Police Department, work to divert non-emergent mental health and addiction related 911 calls.  In collaboration with York Regional Police, the Crisis Response Worker will review calls for service that involve mental health and/or addiction concerns and other psychosocial issues.  The purpose of the unit is to decrease the non-emergency crisis calls for service for front line officers and reduce the use of these personnel for non-emergency responses.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related discipline (i.e. Psychology, etc.)
  • Minimum three years related experience
  • Knowledge and practice of short-term urgent response, psychosocial rehabilitation approach and advanced clinical, crisis and assessment skills are assets.
  • Experience working with individuals having a serious mental illness is essential.
  • Crisis skills for adults and children experiencing a mental health crisis
